As soon as they enter the Calle Fernán González, right on the Route to Santiago, travellers see a house that catches their attention due to its size, its appearance and its facade, which is adorned with two stone coats of arms boasting two lions facing each other and showing their tongues and claws above a fleur-de-lis. In the old days, it was known in the city of Burgos as “La Casona” (“The Large House”), and since the 19th century it is also called “Casa del Conde” (“The Count’s House”), in reference to the Count of Berberana.
The building was ordered by the honourable Manuel Francisco Gil Delgado Rodríguez de Salamanca, Count of Berberana since 12 November 1789, when King Carlos IV signed the Royal Charter of elevation and ennoblement. There is no reason to doubt or deny, on the basis of the date cut into the stone of the House-Palace facade, that it was completed in 1794.
Its most outstanding features are the main facade, the 18th-century entrance, the rear facade, the Los Arcos hall and the 16th-century Francisco de Vitoria hall.
The former Palace of the Counts of Berberana and current Velada Burgos Hotel has 64 rooms, each with a lounge and 23 of which are duplex. The rooms are equipped with all the services and amenities to make our guests feel at home.
Located in the old part of the city of Burgos, it brings history and modernity together. The dreamy atmosphere created by the noble rooms of the 18th-century palace is enhanced by the fact that the hotel is a unique, charming establishment, with four-star comfort and an impeccable, warm, personalised service. |
